Hoosier State Relays – 2024

This project was about creating a racing singlet that represented both Athletic Annex and Nike as title sponsors of the Hoosier State Relays. The singlet needed to align with Nike’s standards, carry Athletic Annex’s colors and logo, and tie back to the state of Indiana.

I created a warped graphic inspired by the lanes of the track. Using blurred and distorted linework, the design captured the speed and motion of track and field while maintaining a clean, professional look often seen on elite racing kits. The goal was to go beyond a one-off event singlet and deliver something polished that athletes would be proud to wear long after the competition.

Gallery of Speed – Indy Monumental Marathon - 2024

This project drew inspiration from the Indianapolis 500, connecting the speed and adrenaline of Indy cars to the feeling of racing on foot. Partnering with On Running, I designed a singlet with a color palette tied to an On Running shoe. Subtle easter eggs honored Indiana and racing culture, including the phrase “Start Your Engines” printed in the neckline. To accompany the singlet, we also created a poster design that carried the same themes of speed and racing heritage, tying the collection together visually. Both the singlet and poster were showcased and sold at the Monumental Marathon expo, giving runners a chance to bring home a piece of the event. The result was a clean, modern design that celebrated the legacy of the Indy 500 while giving athletes something they would want to wear and display long after race day.

Gallery of Speed – Indy Monumental Marathon - 2025

For the second year of the Gallery of Speed project, I collaborated with Indianapolis native and intuitive painter Ben Scott. In partnership with ASICS, we reimagined the iconic Flo-Jo jersey. Designed by Olympic track star Florence Griffith Joyner for the Indiana Pacers in the 1980s, the jersey is both a symbol of Indianapolis sports history and a nod to running culture through Joyner’s legacy. Using it as inspiration for a marathon singlet created a natural connection between the city and the running community.

The core challenge was translating Ben’s bold acrylic brush strokes into a format that could be reproduced through dye sublimation. To achieve this, each brush stroke was painted on transparencies, scanned, and rebuilt digitally, layer by layer. This meticulous process allowed us to capture every detail and texture of the original acrylic work, resulting in a true one-to-one digital recreation of his painting as the foundation of the jersey. The Flo-Jo stripes, rather than being rendered as flat graphics, were also built from Ben’s brush strokes, which gave the piece a cohesive painterly quality throughout.

To break up the bold blue base and add depth, I integrated a map of Indianapolis. This element paid homage to both the Monumental Marathon course and the city itself. The final design merged Florence Joyner’s legacy, Indianapolis culture, and Ben Scott’s artistry into a unique singlet that felt both historic and contemporary. It was showcased and sold at the Monumental Marathon expo, where athletes could take home a wearable piece of the city’s identity.
