RUSK
Rusk Heating & Cooling is one of the oldest HVAC company in the Greater Cincinnati area and a fifth-generation family business. Built on a tradition of honest, trusted work, the company has grown alongside the city it serves and is woven into the fabric of Cincinnati's history. Rusk continues to uphold the same values of integrity, reliability and community commitment that have guided it for more than a century.
OVERVIEW
My Role
I worked with Rusk Heating & Cooling to refresh how the brand shows up across different channels. Because HVAC and home service companies reach customers who may not need them right away, the focus was on creating multiple touchpoints so that when a furnace fails or a system needs servicing, Rusk is already top of mind. I designed social content, gave the brand a light visual refresh, and built assets that emphasized its long history while presenting a modern, clear picture of Rusk as Cincinnati’s most trusted HVAC company. This included printed collateral such as product catalogs, direct-mail postcards, and leave-behind pieces, as well as bus ads and other formats to serve as varied, consistent points of engagement.
SOCIAL & WEB
RUSK
For Rusk’s social media, I developed a structure that celebrated the company’s long history while positioning it as a modern, trustworthy provider. Posts highlighted milestones like its 160-plus years in business, reinforced values of honest and reliable work, and showcased the people and services behind the brand. The goal was to make Rusk feel like the company of record in the region, the name people recognize and trust when they need heating and cooling service.
On the web side, I designed an interactive timeline to tell the full story of Rusk Heating & Cooling, from its early days as Montgomery Coal to the fifth-generation company it is today. The timeline walks visitors through key milestones and innovations, visually connecting Rusk’s long history with its modern identity and services. It gives the brand’s heritage a clear, engaging format online and helps reinforce Rusk as a trusted name that has evolved with Cincinnati over more than 160 years.

To extend Rusk’s touchpoints beyond digital channels, I created a range of printed materials designed to keep the brand top of mind. The Indoor Air Quality catalog was built as both a reference for technicians and an educational tool for homeowners, explaining the importance of air quality and unit maintenance without feeling like a sales pitch.
I also developed direct-mail postcards promoting Rusk’s free second-opinion service, a program that reflects the company’s emphasis on trust and honesty. A second postcard design was created specifically for new homeowners. It used a destination-style look so it would stand out in the mail and serve as one of the first home service introductions they received, letting them know Rusk services their area. Both designs were intended to be informative and useful, giving homeowners a reason to keep them on hand rather than discard them.
To further reinforce brand recall, I designed die-cut magnets shaped like Rusk’s well-known service van. These were placed directly on serviced units so when a system malfunctions, homeowners immediately see Rusk’s contact information without having to search for another company. The playful shape also makes them a fun item to stick on a refrigerator, which helps ensure the magnets stay in the home longer as a built-in reminder of the brand.
For outdoor advertising, I designed a bus ad that was bold and simple. Whether someone is behind the bus at a red light or passing by at speed, the message and branding are immediately clear, reinforcing Rusk’s presence across multiple points of contact.
